What Does a Car Remote Starter Cost?

Customer Buying A Remote Start

Busy Installing Remote Starters

What Do Remote Starters Cost Installed?
A basic remote start is as low as $169.99 installed (+ tax) on some vehicles as long as the car doesn’t have factory security installation issues.  Most but not all newer vehicles have factory security systems or other electronic systems installation issues that must be dealt with in the remote start installation. Therefore most late model vehicles require specialized additional  parts like an anti-theft interface modules or immobilizer bypass module which we stock.   These modules are necessary to make your car’s security system work together with the remote starter.   With the immobilizer bypass module included, a remote start will cost  around $229.99 to $349.99 installed or more depending on the vehicle.   More expensive remote starters, like a long range two-way remote start, can cost from $289 up to $549 or more installed with added parts and labor  included.  For a quote on your vehicle call us. We’ll give you as near an exact quote as we can.*  816-356-8700. Sometimes we need to see the car first or review technical notes about your car’s wiring to get an exact quote. We can’t always do this over the phone, especially during the busy holiday season, but we can get close.

Why do some cars cost more than others to do a remote start?
Some vehicles are harder to work on than others.  A remote start installation can take 45 minutes in one car and three to four hours in another.  Obviously one is going to be more expensive than the other.  The degree of difficulty, what needs to be taken apart, where in the vehicle we have to go to access each wire, or what extra parts we have to use and the cost of those parts all effect the price of the job and the length of time to complete the installation . Our installers are skilled professionals.  Most of us are ASE certified in automobile electronics with years of experience.  On today’s automobiles the work is technical and requires training and experience.

When can you install a remote starter for me?
You don’t need an appointment. We take walk-ins every day.  You can have a remote car start installed any day.  An average remote start or electric car start takes about two hours to install. However if we are busy, we may not be able to start immediately so you may need to drop the vehicle off.

Should I buy my remote car starters online?
NO Way!    … But why not?              Because you don’t really save much money  and you may end up with no warranty at all.  Here’s why:
  • A remote start takes special skill and experience to install. Unless you are one of those rare individuals that is comfortable with car electronics and has the knowledge to know where to access each wire’s hook-up under your dash, and how to program the parts, leave it to the experts.
  • The remote start installation can be expensive and few places do it. The average cost to install your online remote start purchase is between $100 and $180 not counting special parts which can average $50 to $160 or more per vehicle. So even if you buy one cheap, by the time you add the installation price, it’s not that cheap anymore and will often be close to what we charge here for our own remote start systems + ours include a complete warranty on  parts and labor.
  • Many main line manufacturers will not warranty their product unless it is installed by an authorized dealer. Buying a product online won’t give you any  real warranty.  What happens if your remote start has a problem? Not only will no one work on it for free, if it is defective you won’t be able to get it serviced by the manufacturer.  You’re just out of luck.
  • What good are warranty promises from internet sellers?   How will that help you when you need service?  And probably none of them will help you after 30 days anyway.  What about the hassles involved with removing your remote starter, boxing it up, shipping it back and waiting to see when or if it will be exchanged and then having it installed again.  And what if the problem wasn’t the remote start at all, but your own lack of installation ability and knowledge to solve an install problem or to properly program your unit.

Our prices already include installation, parts, and warranty support. You get a better deal, period.

And absolutely, if you love somebody, DON’T give them an online remote start purchase as a gift unless you plan to pay the expense of their installation, or else you will just be giving them a giant headache or pain in the you know what. Over the years we have seen so many people come into our store with their online or Wal-Mart type “gift” remote start. Many just end up leaving them in their garage or closet or behind the seat of their pickup because they don’t want to pay the added expense to install their “gift”.

*Telephone quotes are as close as we can get over the phone, but are not guaranteed. Prices can differ because tech notes on your vehicle may reveal parts or labor we were not aware of when we first quoted. Remote start installation can be very technical. With the volume of calls we receive, it is not possible to read all the tech notes on your vehicle when you call for a quote, especially around the busy holiday season. We quote the best we can based on our knowledge and experience.
